Saturday 1 April 2017
Spring may feel like it’s been a long time coming but we are reopening in style by launching the 2017 season on Saturday 1st April with a fantastic steam and activity day from 10am-4pm.
This will be heralded by live music from the Leiston Royal British Legion Band who will be serenading the town as part of a grand parade from the Co-op car park departing at 9.45am en route to the museum where a host of attractions are in store.
A magnificent array of machines will be demonstrated in all their working glory with large and small engines in steam – and rides aplenty! Highlights include our very own ‘Sirapite’ shunting engine, Consuelo Allen, and our unique ‘Suffolk Punch’ steam tractor which is being renovated 100 years on from when she was built in 1917! The last one of her kind, the ‘Joker’ will make a special appearance, hopefully in steam.
A hog-roast will be on site, with tea, coffee and scrumptious home made cakes available throughout the day! Sights to behold include displays from local model engineering societies and classic cars in the post office square, dancing from the East Suffolk Morris Men, a four-legged (not steam driven) Suffolk Punch and a blacksmithing demonstration. There will be hands-on activities for children and more so do keep an eye on our website for further details.
No need to book – just come along! The admission price for this event will be £8 for adults, £6 for young people (aged 16-21) and £4 for children. Please note that there will be a number of activities around the museum during the school break including an Easter Stamper trail with a chocolaty treat at the end!
